PSP Games That Deserve a Remake on Modern Platforms

The PlayStation Portable’s library is filled with gems that have aged well in terms of gameplay and concept, but could benefit greatly from a modern remake. As developers revisit old franchises and reintroduce them to today’s audiences, slot online several PSP games stand out as deserving of a second life. These titles not only demonstrated the handheld’s capabilities but also left fans yearning for modern updates that preserve their legacy while enhancing their mechanics and visuals.

One of the top contenders for a remake is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, which already received a remastered version—but fans continue to dream of a full-scale remake in the style of Final Fantasy VII Remake. The original was an emotional, character-driven story that explored the backstory of Zack Fair, and while it made the most of the PSP’s limited hardware, there’s no doubt that modern technology could elevate its cinematic moments and combat system to new heights.

Another strong candidate is Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Though already a fan favorite, it often flies under the radar when compared to mainline MGS titles. With its co-op gameplay, base management systems, and tactical stealth action, it offered a gameplay loop that was far ahead of its time. A modern remake using today’s stealth mechanics and enhanced graphics would be an incredible addition to the franchise, potentially even tying it more directly into the broader Metal Gear saga.

Action titles like Daxter and Resistance: Retribution also showcased unique spins on established PlayStation franchises and would flourish with a modern reimagining. Daxter, with its humor and creative platforming, could easily be revitalized with contemporary visuals and tighter controls. Resistance: Retribution, set in the alternate WWII sci-fi universe, delivered a gripping handheld shooter experience that still holds up in structure and pacing.

With nostalgia high and technology ever advancing, these PSP games stand as prime opportunities for developers to revisit and reintroduce them to a new generation. A faithful remake could revive the best aspects of the original while fixing dated mechanics and expanding content—bridging the gap between beloved handheld memories and the power of current-gen platforms.
